All of our classes are taught by community artists and are offered at competitive prices. We offer private lessons, classes and workshops. Our list of current classes and upcoming showcases are listed below.

The Piedmont Wood Carvers Club is offering Soap Carving Classes for ages 5 years and up (must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). The class will be 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month starting June 2021 at the Mauldin Cultural Center. The cost is $5 for supplies.

Broadway Bootcamp

August 9-13, 2021
Monday – Friday | 10 a.m. – 2p.m.

Please Note: Students will need to bring a bag lunch each day, notebook, pen or pencil, mask, and personal hand sanitizer bottle. Safety precautions will be in place, including social distancing, wearing of masks, temperature checks, and frequent hand washing. We will utilize our theater and amphitheater spaces.

This year’s camp will look a little different than usual, but students will be able to work on character creation, writing and performing monologues, socially distanced choreography routines, and music. This camp will either end with a Friday performance for parents and loved ones, or the students will perform for a camera and we will be able to send performance videos out for families to watch at home. More details will be released closer to the camp dates.

Voice Summer CampShining Stars Summer Camp

July 19 – 30 (2 weeks)
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Ages 12 – 14 (6th – 9th grade); if you are beginning 6th – 9th grade this fall, you are the right age.

This camp is a Glee style singing and dancing class. You will learn to sing and dance to songs in a combination of solos and group harmonies as well as choreography and stage presence. In this class you will learn the techniques of singing with proper breathe control, pitch and getting your voice stronger in every way. You will also learn ear training and how to harmonize and dancing skills. We will learn these techniques with fun songs from several of the following genres; pop, country, Broadway, and/or contemporary Christian songs.

The Camp is a more intensive class which runs for two weeks from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 12 on Fridays. We will have a performance for friends and family on Thursday evening July 29th at 6:30 p.m. and end the camp with a pizza party on the last Friday July 30th . The cost is $275.00 for two weeks. Bring your own lunch, snacks and drinks during the week except the final Friday when we have a pizza party.

Cindy Overfield possesses a bachelor of Music Degree from Mars Hill University specializing in Music Education and Vocal Instruction. After college, Cindy worked in music business and as a singing coach in Nashville TN for many years. In addition to this she has enhanced her teaching knowledge by studying various teaching methods. She is an experienced singer/songwriter and has performed regularly both in the recording studio and with bands and feels these experiences make her a better teacher. With over 20 years of teaching and consulting experience Cindy has worked with professional vocalists from locations across both the United States and Canada, including Miss Indiana, recording artists, Kenny Chesney, Jeff Carson, and Jump 5, Pure NRG, Rick Heil of Sonic Flood and many professional singers and songwriters.

In private singing lessons, you will get a more intensive lesson on the techniques of singing. You will learn to be a strong solo singer and performer as long as you are willing to practice!

You will learn the proper techniques of singing as well as create your own style. Student have the opportunity to work on songs that they like from several genres including pop, country, broadway and contemporary Christian.

Singing is like learning a sport, you learn one step and then move to the next. In these lessons, you’ll also learn stage presence to get a feel for what professional singing is like. Contact Cindy for lessons.

Guitar Lessons

Taught by Brandon Dyke, the Mauldin Cultural Center hosts a wide-range of classes, including guitar ensemble, rock improvising, and music theory. You can also bring a friend or family member and take paired guitar lessons, which continue to offer more individualized attention than a larger class would, but can add extra fun and motivation as you learn along with someone else. Brandon offers both group and private lessons.

Wood Carving

The Piedmont Wood Carvers Club hosts a carve-in every Wednesday evening, 6 – 8 p.m. This unstructured carving session does not require a membership. They also host a monthly carve-in on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and also does not require a membership.

Throughout the year, they host workshops and special classes ranging from intaglio relief to pyrography. Stay tuned to their schedule for upcoming workshops.
