All of our classes are taught by community artists and are offered at competitive prices. We offer private lessons, classes and workshops. Our list of current classes and upcoming showcases are listed below.

The Piedmont Wood Carvers Club is offering Soap Carving Classes for ages 5 years and up (must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). The class will be 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month at the Mauldin Cultural Center. The cost is $5 for supplies.

P2 SoftwareP+2 Software Classes (for Manipulating Embroidery Designs)

February 3 – July 6, 2020
First Mondays only
Beginner: 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Advanced: 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

P+2 Software is made for Embroidery Machines. It allows the user to design embroideries, using photos, clip art and various forms of media. The software is produced by Husqvarna Viking, but is not specific to only those Embroidery machines, it can produce designs in formats useable by most embroidery machines. There will be two levels of study. The beginner level for those new to the software and owning the Extra level, and the advanced class for those owning the Ultra level which opens up the field of digitizing for the user. Classes will begin the first Monday of February and run for 6 months.

FMQ quiltingFree Motion Quilting (FMQ) Class

February 10 – July 13, 2020
Second Mondays only, 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
$20/Session | Register

In this class you will have a chance to learn the basics of FMQ and practice what you are learning. Time will be spent with the Walking Foot and learning all the different ways you can utilize a truly useful foot. Next we will move onto FMQ itself, lowering our feed dogs and sewing ‘free’ in designs and textures across your quilting projects. Lastly, we will explore the ever popular Ruler work.

Students will be responsible to bring their machines, fabric sandwiches to practice with (or UFO projects or blocks), a Walking Foot that fits their machine and a Ruler Foot. Rulers can be provided for students to learn with, but students will need the proper ruler foot to fit their machine. Students are welcome to bring any rulers they already own. This class takes place on the second Monday each month for six months, beginning in February.

EmbroideryEmbroidery Class

February 17 – July 20, 2020

If you have purchased an embroidery machine (domestic 1 needle) and need some help, this class is for you! Come and learn the basics of how to get started! This class will cover stabilizers, threads, hooping, stitch outs, and more. Students will be responsible to bring their own machine, fabrics, threads, stabilizers, etc. Instruction, assistance, and education will be supplied. This class takes place on the third Monday of each month for six months, beginning in February.

QuiltingQuilting Class

February 24 – July 27, 2020
Fourth Mondays only, 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
$20/Session | Register

In this class the students will learn how to quilt, beginning with perfecting the ¼” stitch on your machine, ideas in color selection of fabrics for your patterns, construction techniques, discussions about sizing and fabric yardage, using pre cuts, and Foundation Paper Piecing. Students will bring their own fabrics, patterns, supplies, machines, etc. Instruction, lesson techniques, and assistance will be provided. This class takes place on the Fourth Monday of each month for six months, beginning in February.

Broadway Bootcamp

August 10 – 14, 2020
Mon – Fri: 10AM – 2PM

5-6-7-8! Sing! Dance! Act! In this one week camp youth (grades 3rd-9th) will learn the ins and outs of being on stage!  They will sing new songs, study characters and how to portray them, learn dance routines, and finally bring it all together for a Friday showcase performed for family and friends!

Taught by local music and theater director, Tim St. Clair II. Class is limited to 30 students. Students should wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing that they can move in and also bring a sack lunch for their 30 minute lunch break. Class will run Monday-Friday from 10am-2pm. Register today!

Guitar Lessons

Taught by Brandon Dyke, the Mauldin Cultural Center hosts a wide-range of classes, including guitar ensemble, rock improvising, and music theory. You can also bring a friend or family member and take paired guitar lessons, which continue to offer more individualized attention than a larger class would, but can add extra fun and motivation as you learn along with someone else. Brandon offers both group and private lessons.

Wood Carving

The Piedmont Wood Carvers Club hosts a carve-in every Wednesday evening, 6 – 8 p.m. This unstructured carving session does not require a membership. They also host a monthly carve-in on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and also does not require a membership.

Throughout the year, they host workshops and special classes ranging from intaglio relief to pyrography. Stay tuned to their schedule for upcoming workshops.
